A Wild Grace

There is a grace approaching

that we shun as much as death,

it is the completion of our birth.

It does not come in time,

but in timelessness

when the mind sinks into the heart

and we remember.

It is an insistent grace that draws us

to the edge and beckons us to surrender

safe territory and enter our enormity.

We know we must pass

beyond knowing

and fear the shedding.

But we are pulled upward

none-the-less

through forgotten ghosts

and unexpected angels,

luminous.

And there is nothing left to say

but we are That.

And that is what we sing about.

-Stephen Levine

Why do we meditate? Because meditation is the doorway to our true selves, a frontier that expands far beyond space, far beyond our scientific sifting of atoms into the smallest particle known to existence. Far beyond all of that because we are unique, alive and dynamically changing with billions of atoms composed of stardust from millions of light years away circulating through each of us and amongst all of us. We are all at any given time inheriting atoms composed of Cleopatra and Jesus, Atilla the Hun and Moses, the Buddha, Mary Magdalene and Shakespeare or any other human being who ever lived and any other plant or animal as well...we are all reincarnations of the other and so reflections of all existence.

So as you go through your day remember you are a living, breathing miracle of existence with no end to your magnificence, a mystery constantly unfolding - and we all have need of your song.
